Every FireForge knife ships in packaging built to the
same standard as the knife itself.
Standard — Laminated Hardboard Box
Rigid laminated hardboard construction with crimson
interior lining. Structured to protect the blade in
transit and present the knife without additional
wrapping. Ready to give as delivered.
Premium — Acacia Wood Box
Solid acacia wood with crimson interior lining.
Selected for its grain density and natural variation —
no two boxes are identical. A permanent case for
storage and display after the knife is in use.
The choice is yours at checkout.
Both options arrive gift-ready.
Cleaning
Hand wash with warm water and mild soap immediately
after use. Dry completely before storing.
Never place in a dishwasher — the heat and detergent
degrade both the edge and the handle material.
Storage
Use a magnetic rack, a wooden block, or the supplied
sheath. Storing loose in a drawer damages the edge
and creates a safety risk.
Sharpening
Use a Japanese whetstone. Start at 1000 grit to
restore a damaged edge, 3000–6000 grit for regular
maintenance and polish.
Maintain the original edge angle:
· 12Cr18MoV — 15–17° per side
· 10Cr15CoMoV — 15° per side
· ZDP-189 — 12–15° per side
Pull-through sharpeners and honing steels are not
recommended. They remove too much material and cannot
maintain the geometry of a thin Japanese edge.
Honing
Strop on a leather strop between sharpening sessions
to realign the edge without removing steel.
Two to three passes per side is enough.
What to avoid
· Cutting on glass, ceramic or stone surfaces
· Leaving the blade wet or in contact with acidic food
· Using the spine to scrape food from a board
· Applying lateral pressure to the blade
Description
12Cr18MoV stainless steel core. Chromium at 17–18%, carbon at 0.95–1.05%. Heat treated to 60 HRC. Clad in 36 alternating layers of 316L stainless steel, brass, and purple copper — three metals producing three distinct tones across the blade flat. Spine thickness of 2.1 mm.
The 12Cr18MoV core at 60 HRC maintains the 15° bevel through daily chef's knife tasks — slicing, chopping, and dicing across the full session — without the sharpening demands that higher-carbide alloys impose. A standard water stone or ceramic rod between sessions keeps the edge in condition without extended maintenance. At 18% chromium, the core resists corrosion across the full blade cross-section including at the bevel zone. The 316L stainless layers in the cladding provide additional corrosion resistance above the bevel; brass and purple copper produce the three-tone visual contrast with no contribution to cutting performance.
Optimised for the full chef's knife task range under push-cutting, draw-cutting, and rocking technique. Not designed for bone contact or frozen material — 60 HRC under lateral impact risks chipping at the bevel. The brass and purple copper in the cladding will discolour with prolonged exposure to acidic ingredients; this is a surface change in the pattern and does not affect the core or the cutting edge. Not suited to applying the blade as a lever or introducing torque to the spine.
Classic octagonal handle in figured sycamore wood and padauk burl wood. The octagonal cross-section — eight flat faces arranged radially around the axis — provides rotational feedback in the grip as the knife is reoriented between tasks; the flat faces register against the palm distinctly, allowing grip position to be tracked without redirecting attention from the cutting board. Figured sycamore occupies the handle body with a wavy grain and cream coloration; padauk burl provides the denser section with reddish-orange contrast. At 145 g across 210 mm, mass is distributed toward the blade — the light handle construction means the blade section carries more of the total weight, creating a forward bias that suits push-cut strokes on larger ingredients.
Eight faces. Three metals. One core.
