This 215 mm Chef knife operates within the FireForge Tier 4 material level.

It integrates a powder metallurgy stainless steel core within a disciplined 73-layer laminated architecture, representing the transition from conventional stainless alloys to refined carbide microstructure performance.

This tier delivers improved wear resistance and stable edge retention while maintaining structural reliability for professional daily preparation.

Engineering and Materials

The cutting core is manufactured from 14Cr14MoVNb powder metallurgy stainless steel.

Powder metallurgy processing provides:

  • refined carbide distribution

  • increased wear resistance

  • stable edge formation

  • predictable sharpening behaviour

Heat treatment stabilises hardness at 62 ±2 HRC.

Cutting performance is defined exclusively by the PM core.

The blade is clad with 72 external stainless layers, forming a 73-layer laminated structure.

These outer layers:

  • protect the hardened core

  • reinforce structural stability

  • enhance corrosion resistance

They do not increase cutting retention.

Blade thickness is approximately 2.2 mm, supporting balanced rigidity and controlled slicing.

Manufacturing Process

The blade undergoes controlled heat treatment cycles to ensure uniform hardness distribution and dimensional stability.

Precision grinding establishes symmetrical blade geometry and consistent edge behaviour.

Final edge geometry is ground to approximately 15° ±1 per side.
